Synopsis:
Why is green filming the future of the film industry? What are the rules of green puppet making? Using their knowledge and expertise, we will talk about practical advice that can allow planning and practicing solutions neutralising the film industry's impact on the environment. The key point is a discussion about a unique green guide prepared as part of StopMoLab by MOMAKIN.

Scriptwriter, animator, compositing artist specialized in stop motion, 2D and motion graphics with multidisciplinary and socio-environmental approach. Working on biodegradable alternative to silicone for stop-motion production.
Birgit Heidsiek (European Center for Sustainability)
Founder of the European Center for Sustainability in the Media World. Publishes Green Film Shooting magazine. Green Cinema Consultant for German Federal Film Board. Author of The Green Cinema Handbook. Two-time recipient of German Sustainability Award. TEDx speaker.

Acclaimed animation directors Péter Vácz and Joseph Wallace led an intensive four day stop motion workshop as part of the PRIMANIMA World Festival of First Animations in Budapest (Oct. 2017). The Exploded Girl, a 30-year-old woman literally blows up , sometimes seven times a day. A surreal, intimate, and deeply political short film by Caroline Poggi & Jonathan Vinel, selected at Annecy Festival in the Official Competition. In the first episode of Chill(s) — our new series dedicated to genre films — the duo reflects on loneliness, virtual worlds, and the structural violence that seeps into everyday life. Written during lockdown, the film grew in resonance with the latest traumatising news and images from Gaza, and asks what happens when that violence becomes internal. Premiered at Locarno Festival and chosen as the European Film Awards candidate for Best Short Film.

Aardman mainstays Nick Park and Merlin Crossingham visit BFI Southbank to talk about their work, including the new Wallace & Gromit adventure Vengeance Most Fowl. Four-time Oscar-winner Nick Park created the characters Wallace and Gromit at film school. He would go on to direct Creature Comforts, Early Man and, with Peter Lord, Chicken Run. He is a director of Aardman Animations and one the world’s leading stop-motion animators and filmmakers. The multi-talented Merlin Crossingham has worked on many of Aardman’s greatest films and is Creative Director of Wallace and Gromit at Aardman. He is also the director, with Nick Park, of the forthcoming Wallace and Gromit adventure Vengeance Most Fowl. They will discuss their careers at Aardman and share their insights into this glorious form of animation.
