The Poliektova sisters speak about transforming the initial idea of a story into a film, about the process of initial artwork, visuals and storyboarding. Their film "My Grandfather Was a Cherry Tree" was Oscar nominated. Olga Poliektova Twin sister with Tatiana. Born in St-Petersburg, Russia. Dutch director Mascha Halberstad will take us behind the scenes of her stop-motion work for children. She will focus primarily on her feature-length animated films – Oink (2022) and Fox and Hare Save the Forest (2024), which premiered at this year's Berlinale in the Berlinale Generation competition section. Mascha Halberstad Dutch animation director. Studied at ArtEZ Art Academy in Arnhem. Created the 3-part series "Picknick with Cake" (awarded Cinekid Kinderkast 2013). Her film "Munya in Me" won Grand Jury Prize at BANFF. Directed "Fox & Hare" series (Cinekid Audience Award). Masterclass will focus on the production of the film THE SIREN and a description of using the Motion Capture Technology. The focus of this masterclass will be on the feature-length animated film THE SIREN, on which a large part of the animation of the 3D characters was realised using Motion Capture technology through the Slovak company Artichoke and the animation studio Blue Faces. This is the first ever project of this size to be realised using this technology in Slovakia. Sepideh Farsi Born in Tehran, later moved to Paris where she studied mathematics but soon began filmmaking. After several short films, directed documentary "Homi D. Sethna, Filmmaker" which won several awards. Documentaries "Harat" and "Tehran Without Permission" premiered in Locarno. Feature films "Dreams of Dust" and "The Gaze" screened at Rotterdam. "The House Under the Water" won NETPAC Award. Latest film "The Siren" had world premiere at Berlinale. Tomas Danay (Blue Faces) Graduated in animation at the Film and Television Faculty of the Academy of Performing Arts (VŠMU). Main animator at Blue Faces studio. Worked on many foreign films (Green Hornet, Xibalba, Asura) and games (NBA 2k16, Shadows: Awakening), as well as commercials and music videos (Lil Dicky – Pillow Talking). Teaches computer animation at VŠMU, programme director of Festival BAB (Bratislava Animation Biennial). Juraj Krasnohorsky (Artichoke) Producer based in Bratislava. With Henrieta Tsvangová founded Artichoke (2010), producing fiction and animated films. Co-produced short "Superbia" (2016) which premiered at Semaine de la Critique in Cannes. Co-producing "White Plastic Sky" and stop-motion feature "Of Unwanted Things and People". Join our panel discussion on animation for young audiences. Talking about young audience cinema, it is often assumed that animation might be the only type of films that easily transcend the domestic market – "animation travels easily and sells easily". But is that really so? When producing animation for teenagers, what could it look like? Does the family audience really exist? All panelists have a background in young audience content, whether as filmmaker, producer or festival programmer. Together with the audience, they will search for an answer to one of the biggest clichés in the world of cinema: "Animation is only for children". Réka Temple (Cinemon Entertainment) Over 25 years of experience in the film and television industry and has contributed to over 300 half-hour episodes, 8 feature films and numerous specials, shorts and commercials, which have altogether earned over 100 awards and nominations worldwide. Prior to joining Cinemon Entertainment worked at Loonland Media AG (Germany). Secretary General of the Hungarian Producer's Association (2005-2009), headed the Animation Department at the Institute of Theatre and Film (2010-2014). Currently President of the Hungarian Animation Producers' Association and represents the country as Ambassador at the European Animation Awards. Maciej Jakubczyk (New Horizons Association) Board Member of New Horizons Association (Poland) in film festival, distribution, film education and production. The feature-length animated film "Even Mice Belong to Heaven" (dir. Jan Bubeníček, Denisa Grimmová), created with puppet technology, had its world premiere at the Annecy International Animated Film Festival. Our webinar will take a look behind the scenes of the film's production, following the journey from the artistic design of an object or space to its actual realization, including the production of the puppet part of the film, its artistic and technological concept, the preparatory work in the studios, and the filming, followed by a presentation focused on the combination of puppet film with elements of computer graphics.
