Pandas
Synopsis:
The world is moving ever so fast and humans are claiming more and more space without necessarily considering the consequences. ‘Pandas’ is caught in the middle of a game where concepts of commercialism and pure voyeuristic entertainment are put side by side with notions of animal preservation. Yet, the very same ”saviors” are tampering with natural selection processes and altering the mind of the panda, thus creating a hierarchy in terms of the value of life. ‘Panda is at this point existing at the mercy of man but all of a sudden his compromising existence is altered by events beyond his control. From that point on, a new chapter starts in the incessant struggle between man and the rest of nature.

A rescue mission to free chickens from a factory farm goes radically wrong, and a group of four activists is forced to escape into the inhospitable wilderness to experience a series of borderline situations and ethical dilemmas that lead to new insights, such as that nature is not a safe place for animals.

An apartment building full of self centered inhabitants. Utterly exhausted caretaker and his sexually frustrated wife. Widowed deer drowning his sorrows in loads of alcohol… While trying to cope with their problems, they find themselves in a hard to solve triangle asking for absurd and irrational solutions. The consequences can easily become permanent, sometimes maybe too permanent. The film is a loose adaptation of a well-known biblical story while transforming it into an contemporary ironic narrative about how the world sometimes works.

Visual material that would usually get thrown out is transformed in a “two-dimensional” format into distinct and dynamic color fields animated by a minimalist beat, inspired by glitch art and the principles of absolute film.
