Borderlines
Synopsis:
An artistically simple yet poignant allegory on a very topical problem – people and the borderlines of their world. What is more important in human lives – defining your own space, or coexistence and collaboration with others? The film also shows how a simple cause can trigger a whirlwind of quarrels and conflicts that cannot be stopped easily.

The conversation races through themes of Czechoslovakia’s birth, the relationship between the nations and contemporary social and generational problems, arriving to a reflection on the importance of the year 1918. The visual is framed by an image of characters talking and changes into various absurd or lyrical animated illustrations.

The animated documentary by Jitka Skálová and David Daenemark focuses not only on the Munich Agreement, but also on the wider context. Thanks to the commentary of historian Eduard Stehlik, it provides an insider’s view of the Europe that awaited the most tragic years of the last century.

Nový Prostor is a street paper sold by people as a part of social rehabilitation in streets of Czech Republic. Zdeněk, one of the people selling this magazine, stands in front of National Theatre every day. In a short animated documentary, he talks about his relationship with the place he was assigned with and people he meets there on a daily basis.
