Synopsis:
Based on a song by Iztok Mlakar, this animated film follows a peasant couple from their wedding to their death. Throughout their life, the wife secretly serves her husband chicory instead of real coffee — a lie he never uncovers. A tender story about love, deception, and how we often fail to express affection until it’s too late.

A hungry Weasel attacks a flock of birds living on the last standing tree. The birds in a canopy are trying to keep the tree in balance, all the while the Weasel is persistently trying to climb up its trunk. The flock is amused by its failed attempts. The merriment causes a moment of inattention and Weasel immediately takes advantage of it. The flock is already mourning the lost maestro, when he finally drags himself back up. When the flock realises Weasel loves fruit, they generously cover it in a pile. Relieved flock forget their main task – the unstable tree tumbles down and the birds’ home is gone. Suddenly, trunk starts moving. Thankful Weasel is lifting up the tree and manages to get it upright. Now, they are better off being friends.

The Arcadian atmosphere of a hazy underworld hosts unusual characters: an Illusionist, a Civil Entity, a Wooden Puppet and a silent, but dangerous Swordsmen. Their mysterious experiences are an allegory of the relationship between the now extinct tradition of European combat swordsmanship and the doctrine of pragmatic political action. Is the end of the allegory also a beginning of an instructive misunderstanding? The film is inspired by the motifs from the books Flower of Battle (1410) by Fiore dei Liberi and A Dialogue in Hell between Machiavelli and Montesquieu (1864) by Maurice Joly.

Heldenkanzler is based on a true story. Vienna 1993 – Parliament: Many delegates are talking. A tiny man lifts himself up on the speaker’s desk. It is Engelbert Dollfuss. The other parliamentarians make fun of him loudly. A fight breaks out in the parliament. The tiny man escapes from the troubled parliament and flees into the next cinema. As he recognizes that even a small Austrian man rides highly successful on the wave of victory in Germany, he also decides to take power.
