We are glad that we could screen an extraordinary stop-motion piece, Antipolis by Kaspar Jancis in our Masters Competition Programme at the 11th Primanima. The Estonian filmmaker's clay figures are telling the story of an incompatible conspiracy theory about the shape of planet Earth. He worked on many audible and visual details of Antipolis with artists and friends from Hungary. At the 11th of Primanima Kaspar and Mattia Sinigaglia also gifted our audience with a surprise at the Award Ceremony.

Bret Battey’s “Estuaries” series of audiovisual compositions (2016-22) and two additional installations were based in part on the exploration of unique algorithmic approaches.His OptiNelder video filter visualises mathematical optimisation processes applied to video or mathematical “terrains”. His Nodewebba software links mathematical-feedback pattern generators to help create emergent musical behaviours. Battey discusses how these tools were part of his investigation of his idea of “fluid audiovisual counterpoint” and finding fruitful intertwining of “event and object” thinking and “continuum, texture and gesture” thinking in combining music and image.

Maja Gehrig is an animation filmmaker and teacher based in Zurich. She attended a preliminary design course at the Zurich School of Art and Design in 1999-2000. Then, she studied media art for two years at the University of Applied Sciences Aarau, followed by an internship at Eesti Joonisfilm in Tallinn, Estonia. In 2003-2005, she completed the animation degree programme at the Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts. Her short animation films use a wide range of techniques and have gained international recognition. Her latest work Average Happiness won several prizes at different festivals, including the Best Swiss Animation award in 2020. Besides making her own films, she teaches at Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts on the BA Animation course. Together with Elie Chapuis, she is co-president of ASIFA Switzerland (GSFA).
