Synopsis:
From his dark days in Communist Czechoslovakia through brighter times in the United States, animator Paul Fierlinger has navigated through life with dogs as his co-pilot.

Can loneliness make you happy? Blending intimate interviews with distinctive animation, A Room Nearby gives voice to five culturally dissimilar people as they reflect on the process and unexpected revelations of loneliness.

During dinner, “the system” feeds the few who consume all the resources while the rest survive on scraps. Inevitably, the struggle for what remains leads to catastrophic change. The offspring of this transition turns out not to be a sign of hope, but the spitting image of the parents.
