MASTERCLASS – ALTERED DIMENSIONS. Abstract Audiovisual Works of Art by ZSOLT GYENES (HU). Gyenes’ talk focuses on Sound / Image connections; on what Synchrony, Asynchrony and “Synchresis” actually mean.
The talk focuses on the interdisciplinary relations between various areas of knowledge, that were the sources of inspiration for the creation of the final imagery, sound, and movement in the animated works of Miguel Pires de Matos. With a background in architecture, music and animated film, Miguel Pires de Matos will discusses some of the strategies and abstract operations behind his short film 4 Estados da Matéria (4 States of Matter, 2018) and the film he co-directed with other guest architects for MONSTRA Animation Festival in Lisbon, titled compositio III (2012).

Prince Ki-Ki-Do and his faithful friends Tine and Bine fearlessly fly into the murky swamp to confront the monster. The fog conceals many secrets and it just so turns out that the monster is in fact an out-of-tune choir …
In a dark forest atop a stone tower lives Prince Ki-Ki-Do, a brave little chick who protects the forest’s creatures. When a cry for help interrupts his morning tea, he and his mosquito friends Tine and Bine rush to the rescue. Together, they stop the mischievous sow Rosalia and save the forest’s mushrooms.
Priit talks on the creation of his film HOTEL E (1992). How he got the idea, the structure of the film, filling the basic structure with events, solutions for style of animation and visual design as well as describe the work process. The short flat etude about two dogs and a visitor was, of course, created during the winter semester of the author's studies.
While pursuing an investigation police officer Alex is injured by a mysterious character with a disfigured face. Stuck in hospital, he meets Léo, an eleven-year-old patient who has the ability to leave his body at will. The boy can fly and pass through walls like a phantom, invisible to all. Thanks to Léo, Alex, along with the intrepid journalist Marie, can assume the roles of guardian angels. The disfigured gangster is threatening the city. Although the policeman is stuck in his wheelchair, the boy can go anywhere he chooses. Alex can continue his investigation, with Léo acting as his eyes and legs.
The city has many faces. Busy streets, shopping passageways, historical centre. The city, however, is also made by its people. Nový Prostor is a street paper sold by people as a part of social rehabilitation in streets of Czech Republic. Zdeněk, one of the people selling this magazine, stands in front of National Theatre every day. In a short animated documentary, he talks about his relationship with the place he was assigned with and people he meets there on a daily basis.
