Kaboom Animation Festival: Time Is Ticking!

Still looking for a European festival to submit your animated project to? The Dutch Kaboom Animation Festival is accepting submissions until October 5.

The great news is that Kaboom doesn’t focus solely on animated short films. It also accepts animated feature films, games, and VR projects. On top of that, the winners of the Official Kaboom Competition for Best Short Film and Best Dutch Professional Short automatically qualify for consideration in the ACADEMY AWARDS® Short Film competition, giving both films a chance to compete for an OSCAR®.

The next edition of Kaboom will take place from March 12–21, 2027. The first six days will be held in Utrecht and will include Kaboom Industry Days for professionals working in animation, illustration, immersive media, and related fields. The final four days will take place in Amsterdam. This two-city format brings film screenings and industry events together, turning the festival into an active creative hub.

Kaboom features a diverse range of competitions, spanning short and feature-length films, VR projects, documentaries, Dutch shorts, new games, commissioned works, student projects, and programming for children. Supporting the Dutch animation community is central to the festival. To connect and inspire local creatives, Kaboom opens with two full days dedicated to professionals and emerging talent.

If you submit a project, the selection committee will let you know by late December 2026 whether it has been selected. Don’t hesitate and drop your submission as soon as possible!
