Join LALIFF and LatinX in Animation as we host LatinX short animation filmmakers from LALIFF Connect 2020. Moderated by Simón Wilches-Castro (Creative Director, Titmouse) and José Iñesta (CEO, Pixelatl), we will discuss the inspiration and structure behind the experimental animated shorts and explore the themes touched upon these shorts.

This is the story of an obese and lonely man called Lajos, who meets Laci due to an accident. The world opens up to him through their shared adventures; they even undertake to organize the weightlifters’ world championships.
The film starts in Baikonur. A female dog is captured while trying to find something to feed her puppies. She is named Laika and brought to a local spaceport. Professor Voroljov and his assistant Kokotov begin preparing Laika for space travel. On the day before the launch, Laika manages to get out of her cage and visits the space rocket. Then she returns for her puppies and smuggles them into the rocket.
A disappointing magician leads his sole spectator to create her own magic.
SHE, the heroine of the film, wakes up in a strange world and sees her contorted reflection in a mirror. SHE also finds a mysterious map that accompanies her during a metaphorical journey in which she has to overcome many adversities to finally reach the end of her road and discover that to be born again, you must first die.

Up there, on the surface of the water, something extraordinary has just appeared: a voice. So soft and seductive that it is unlike anything we have ever heard before.
In a quiet suburban neighborhood lives Mr. Badú, an octogenarian taxidermist with questionable skills. He’s madly in love with his neighbor, Mrs. Aurelia, who wants nothing to do with him. One day, Mr. Badú comes up with a great idea of how to win over the object of his affection.
The “Hématome” video is an animated surreal narrative following a gorilla-like nurse attempting to heal a strange patient whose body undergoes fantastical transformations morphing into animals, warriors, insects, and objects in a dreamlike, metamorphic journey.
A young mexican smuggler and a little girl travel illegally on top of a cargo train, called La Bestia, to get to the USA. An injury transforms his perception of the journey.
With the death of cinema comes the re-birth of material. Now, we have to assemble visual puzzles instead of shots.
The “Danza Marilù” music video is an animated visual accompaniment to the breezy, nu-disco / French pop track by L’Impératrice featuring Fabiana Martone
The animated video clip was created as a closing ceremony at UMPRUM in Prague. Four second-year students were challenged to combine their different approaches to visuals and animation itself. The central motifs of the film are the range of cartoon animation and the building of friendship, metaphorically represented in the theme of this work.
The bird in its cage dreams about clouds. This unique film made by the japanese director Hajime Kimura is composed of 2400 images created one by one with Photoshop only using the penbrush tool that gives a blurry hand-painted aesthetic.
